Interview with AMEYAW DEBRAH

·     Hello, please introduce yourself and what you do ?

I am Ameyaw Kissi Debrah, a celebrity and lifestyle blogger from Ghana.

·     How did you start off?

My journey in media started after the University. While at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, I won the Best Publishing student award, and it was sponsored by Ovation International magazine. As part of the prize, I was given the chance to do my National Service at the magazine after soon. After completing National Service I stayed there a bit until I got introduced to the Voices of Africa project. This was how I started my journey online. I was given a Nokia phone to use to make video reports for the project, which was uploaded on africanews.com.

 

·     Why blogging? What informed your idea?

I think blogging just found me. As part of the Voices of Africa project, I was invited to speak about mobile phone reporting at the Highway Africa summit at the Rhodes University in South Africa. There, I met bloggers from all over the world and so when I returned to Ghana I decided to start my own blog as well.  So when my contracted with Voices of Africa ended, I focused on my blog.  I love the idea of having a voice to talk about things I love, in my own way, just as I want it.

·     You mentioned on your profile that you’re a traveller as well, how many countries have you travelled to so far?

I have been on every continent but Australia for now. I think I have been to over 20 countries so far. I’m looking forward to visiting my dream destinations such as Uganda, Zimbabwe, Namibia, Angola, Malawi, Ethiopia, Jamaica (Caribean), Canada and others. 

 

·     How challenging is your job?

My work is fun but challenging at the same time because even when I have fun I must turn it into work by writing about it. Haha. I do a lot all myself so it gets hectic and tiring sometimes when I have deadlines. I’d say my biggest challenge is still monetizing my platforms fully because Ghana is still behind with the digital revolution, when it comes to advertising and promotions online.

·     What motivates you to keep doing what you’re doing?

Im motivated by the fact that there are people who love my work and look forward to my news and opinions on matters. When people send me messages to confirm things they have heard, it makes me realised that people believe my word and I’m motivated to keep doing what I do. 

 

·     Professionally, what are your goals

My goal is to grow and build a media empire, creating a variety of contents and formats for audience all over the world.

·     How do you intend to strive to the top of the ladder in the media business, given the level of competition?

I hope to do so my continually differentiating myself with quality and credible content that is entertaining, informative and educative. By building my strengths and growing with new trends that may emerge. 

 

·     What is your definition of fabulous?

Fabolous for me is anything that can make people say ‘wow’

·     What celebrities within and outside of Ghana would you want to collaborate with in future?

I wont to collaborate with all the big stars in Ghana, Africa and the world. Access to such people will give me the opportunity to create more interesting content. Content that is not created from the vacuum but back with facts that have such exclusive access allows. That is how celebrity content grows
